DTS035 - City Traffic
Buses, Cars, Trains and more
City Traffic brings the daily noise of Berlin to the your library.
The Pack contains recordings of main roads during the morning rush hour, when the trolley car rumbles over the rails and the trucks are roaring through the kettles. In between a bunch of honking mopeds and cars with broken exhaust pipes are fighting for their space. Commuter trains are crossing every minute, the omnibus arrives just in time and the long-distance trains pass the station with squeaking brakes. In the evening it is rainy and at least the suburb calms down a little bit.
City Traffic consists of 10 different sceneries that are split into 55 single takes, each one with a length of 30 to 150 seconds.
The material offers exciting possibilities for scoring, radio play and composition.

Sampler synthesized random & additive waveforms
fTable includes a huge collection of synthesized waveforms created on a Hohner HS1E sampler. All sets of waveforms use the additive and hand drawing capabilities of this unit. The samples are recorded through the samplers proprietary 16 Bit DAC that is a little harsh but also gives unique colorization to the sounds.
fTable takes you back to the late 80´s when this sampler appeared on the market and instantly challenged the big players like EMU and AKAI.

A plucked and bowed Viola da Gamba
Vlamba is a set of 7 Ableton devices that are based on the sounds of a bowed and plucked Viola da Gamba.
The instrument´s recordings were taken with a close and a distant mic where both are joined to form time-aligned stereo samples.
The intention of this Live Pack is to demonstrate how far you can go from the original sound of a set of distinct real-world samples. Following this idea Vlamba delivers a nice selection of acousmatic events that match perfectly for lively textures, background layers or whole pieces of contemporary music.

An upright piano at open windows
Day Time Traffic Piano is an unusual interpretation of a virtual piano library. A well preserved Hoffmann & Kühne upright piano in a Berlin city apartment delivered the material for this Live Pack. The recording session took place on an ordinary Wednesday during the afternoon. The windows above the heavily travelled main road were kept open intentionally so that the noise of passing cars, trucks, mopeds and trams could be captured on the recordings.
The results are 6 outstanding Ableton instruments. Imagine to play your piano either at a city crossroad, as a prepared piano on a freejazz session or to use it as a synth-like texture generator. Be invited to explore new interpretations of the well-known piano sound.

DTS028 - La Ramona Piano Strings
Squarewave Strings and Pianos
La Ramona Piano Strings reassembles the Vermona String Piano. The original from 1978 features two main sounds named Piano and Strings. Each of them consists of three adjustable registers. So the piano sound is composed of a piano, a clavichord and a spinet layer while the string sound is composed of a cello, a viola and a violine layer.
Like all stringers of this time the instrument is built around a main oscillator that gets divided into 12 frequencies of the according octave.
What makes this vintage instrument special is the multiple analog chorus unit that colors the sound in its unique way.

DTS026 - Kathie´s Revenge
The Vocalist Toolbox
Vocalist Kathie Monroe came in for several recording sessions and performed whatever came to her mind. The results are 5 perfect vowel instruments, the Konsolese device, 52 categorized vocal clips spiced up with 10 sophisticated effect racks.
The vowel instruments span across 3 octaves each. Their included samples were fine tuned only, no further transpositions took place.
Konsolese contains a lot of short vocal attacks and all kinds of side noises that Kathie did during recording. With implemented random and arpeggiator features Konsolese is a versatile tool for cadenced staccato phrases.
Also included in this Live Pack are 52 clips that introduce a great variety of dadaistic phrases and other weird frames of mind.

Sounds from the Roland SH-2000
The Roland SH-2000 was introduced in 1973. It´s an analog single-oscillator synthesizer with adjustable cutoff, resonance and LFO modulation on filter and pitch. Below its 37-note keyboard are 30 colorful tab switches for the selection of such funny presets like Frog Man, Singing Voice or Hawaiian Guitar. Although the sound of these presets are far away from what their names imply they are fun to play with.
The Live Pack includes 22 heavy processed instruments where most of them include a kill switch. This allows to return to the unaltered and original preset sound.

Sounds made with iPD Synthesis
A fresh library based on the Interactive Phase Distortion principle. The Casio VZ10m and the German Hohner HS2/E are the last hardware synths featuring iPD. The iPD synthesis was meant as an effort to simplify sound programming because its results are easier to predict when comparing to FM synthesis. IPD is capable of producing bright and lively tunes with sharp attacks and digital precision.
The Live Pack contains 30 instruments featuring "filter-less" and "non-substractive" sounds that stand out thru their rich harmonic content and agile brightness. Each instrument is based on its unique set of velocity-layered multisamples.

A diversified collection of sounds exclusively patched on two CURETRONIC modular cabinets. CURETRONIC is a classical sound synthesis system developed and continuously expanded by Matthias Schmidt. Each module of his ever growing product line gets carefully handcrafted and tested before beeing released.
For the creation of the CURETRONIC Modular Volume II Live Pack 18 of currently over 30 available modules were used. The Pack includes 50 instruments with each one basing on its unique set of velocity-layered multisamples. So the CURETRONIC Modular Volume II library gives a comprehensive overview of Curetronics infinite sound creation possibilities.

The Harmona Forte is a keyboard instrument similar to a reed organ. The sound of the instrument is produced by air beeing blown thru reeds of different length. The air is provided by an electrical driven blower that produces a permanent wind noise. With this functional principle the Harmona Forte belongs to the Aerophones.
The Live Pack instruments recreate the sounds of the Harmona with detailed stereosamples, adjustable in its width, and separate levels for Reeds, Key-on, Key-off and Blower noise.

DTS019 - Gra.FX
Header artworks transformed into sound
Gra.FX, a sound pack containing a collection of Ableton Instruments for the creation of constantly evolving rhythms, textures, pads and drones. The sample pool of these instruments consists of fifteen transformed header artworks that had appeared on the Detunized.com website during the past year and a half.
Before being transformed by an additive synthesis algorithm, all selected artworks were separated into their respective color space and brightness range with the aid of high-resolution spectral analysis software.
The revealing sets of rich and complex samples then formed the basis of the Ableton Instruments. Each of the fifteen instruments has eight remote controllable sound shape devices with carefully adjusted multi-parameter mappings that grant for creative enhancements of the “graphic-sounds”.

This month´s Live Pack features a Hammond B2 organ with built in TREK II TP-2B Percussion module.
All organ´s registers plus the percussion module were recorded separately - thru line out and a mic´ed LESLIE Type 251 speaker. All sources are integrated in two different Live Racks. Type A focuses on more common parameters while Type B has mapped the organ´s registers to the rack macro controls.
Furthermore 4 dinky eggs made their way into the pack. They came up as a result of several audio processing steps and feature organ type sounds as well.

The original CS-15 is an often underrated monophonic synth from the late 70's. It is equipped with a dual signal path including 2 Oscillators, 2 Multimode Filters, a dual VCA system and 2 assignable Envelope Generators. Found sounds from the attic
An old house somewhere in the German countryside with an attic full of sound objects like pots, pans, lids, chairs, wardrobes, bicycle frames, basins, bathtubs and shaky windows.
The recordings made there served as the foundation for the creation of a nice selection of long and evolving textures and drones that cover the borderline between tonal and atonal soundscapes.
Every sample was carefully handcrafted by passing several processing stages. The release includes them as chromatically mapped instrument rack and as live clips.

DTS009 - Rolfing Laid Back Vol. 1
Rescued from the timber worm
A really rotten upright piano, totally out of tune, with all the keys disappeared.
But the chassis was still complete and made such a fantastic reverb, it seemed to be everlasting. Slapping the lowest string it took almost three minutes until the sound had gone.
With Volume 1 you get the original piano sound picked up at two distances plus five other sound sets using different prepared piano techniques.
The audio demos you can listen to on the left were made completely without additional reverb.

DTS006 - Rodox 73
Not only a Danisch theme...
This time we picked up a dusty Rhodes Mark 1 we found in a desolated rear building near my hometown. We tried to get the best out of it and were amazed about the stable sounds this piece gave us!
The thing I personaly like most is the key-off sound when releasing the lower keys.
In our Rodox 73 extension you can steplessly mix the level of these release sounds ad libitum. Furthermore we processed the recordings through different outboard gear such as tubes and reverbs.
So you will have the original Mark 1 sound plus some nice modifications of it, each one basing on its own set of samples.

DTS005 - Tron 5
Variations on a tank
Another analog treasure from the eastern hemisphere.
The russian Elektronika EM-5 comes green and heavy like a battle tank but when taking a look closer it is more like a cancer. Protected by a 25 KG steel body it soon reveals its vulnerability. But once the cheap plastic keys, some transistors and other bowels had been fixed the Elektronika rewarded us with some lovely keyboard sounds not far from the Clavinet and a string section.
With the Tron-5 extension we have preserved these nice original sounds but also demonstrate that the original CAN sound like a tank. Among other things we added an adjustable suboctave and the distinctive key-off noise that is inherent to this keyboard.

As a very special feature the Tron-5 extension includes some lightweight versions of the original sounds. So this extension can also be played on netbooks and older computers with nearly the same comfort.

The legendary Polivoks from Russia now available for Ableton Live!
All 5 original Polivoks waveforms where captured and integrated carefully into its unique Multiwaveform Oscillators. Each waveform is represented by 32 single samples that cover all five registers of the original Polivoks: 32´ | 16´ | 8´ | 4´ | 2´
Due to the semi-modular principle of Live the Vox Populi Synthesizer could be extended far beyond the original Polivoks layout. It includes 4 different types of Multiwaveform Oscillators capable of Waveform Shaping, Frequency Modulation, Amplitude Modulation and Pitch Modulation. Additional 24 oscillators contain further sets of multisampled Polivoks timbres. Each one of these 28 different oscillators is hot-swappable and can be used easily to extend the sound spectrum of the Vox Populi Synthesizer.
