HumBuzz is a versatile collection of 86 surprising Ableton Racks.
The source material was created by capturing the electromagnetic fields emitted by fridges, microwaves, boilers, cell phones, TVs and computer components.
Like all modern electronics these devices produce a complex mixture of noises that cover wide frequency ranges. But surprisingly often one can find tonal elements that fit into usefull scales.
Therefore HumBuzz not only contains hum and buzz but also thick pads, leads, bells and keys that do not deny their origin but are perfect in tune.
Also included are many start-up and boot noises applicable for event-driven foleys, scoring or interface design.

Hard disks, Floppy drives, CPU fans and more
Computer Noises is based on a wide palette of noises that computers of the past decades emit when booting, reading from their CD-ROM drives or accessing a hard disk.
The library splits into 2 main categories - mono files and dual-channel files where these presets have a dedicated crossfade macro that blends from left to right while passing the stereo stage.
The main categories are further organised in different sceneries like booting computers, blower fans, read/write access of floppies, CD-ROMs or hard drives.
Oddities like hum, buzz and all kinds of crosstalks where used for the creation of some spacey sound effects.
The full-lenth stems plus additional bonus material of each computer that made its way into this library are available as separate WAV-file package.

Sounds from the Korg Poly 800
Polite 800 introduces another famous eighties synthesizer:
the Korg Poly 800.
This little leight-weight plastic thing was meant to be a performance synthesizer because it can run on batteries, has guitar strap pegs and inverted key colors.
On the other hand programming this thing isn´t really a performance because like the majority of the budget synths of this time the Poly 800 has to be conquered with nothing more than a number block plus an increase and decrease button.
The Live Pack contains 35 instruments that perfectly capture the spirit of this classic hybrid. The Racks have a standardized macro layout which is easy to familiarize with. So hot-swapping through the included Basses, Keys, Pads, Brasses and FX sounds is absolutely painless.
Nevertheless all macros controls are multi-connected to more than 20 parameters per instrument which invites for a comfortable in-depth tweaking of the sounds.

Guitar introduces the sounds from a stock acoustic guitar with 3 steel and 3 nylon strings.
The instrument´s recordings were taken from two different microphone positions and are captured to phase-aligned dual-mono samples.
So each preset of the Live Pack has a dedicated macro control for blending between these mic positions.
Guitar includes 2 guitar presets, 3 bass presets, a drum machine with hits and scrapes from the guitar body plus a handful of processings and adaptions of the original sounds.

4-Operator Frequency Modulation Sound Synthesis
4op is a huge library of FM sounds, all captured from a Yamaha TX81z. This little 1-unit rackmount module from 1987 got a wider range of sounds than the DX-7 because it has 8 waveforms instead of just the sine. The TX81z was used in a lot of electronic music productions of the 90ies and still has its place in todays studio environments.
The Live Pack version includes a wide collection of Basses, Glasses, Bells, Keys, Pads, Strings and FX-sounds that are based on nearly 1000 samples. Each preset has included a 5th operator that is provided by Lives Sampler.

Bass and Strings with Synth
Magmavox 3000 is a painstaking recreation of the Multivox MX-3000 multi-part synthesizer.
The original includes an individual Bass synth, a Preset edit synth plus a monophonic Lead synth and is therefore the largest synthesizer ever produced by Multivox, one of those companies that faded early into synth history.
Magmavox 3000 is based on close to 1500 samples that reflect the sound of the original in deep and accurate detail.
The lower keys are mapped with the original Bass sounds followed by the Synth sounds in the upper octaves. The Preset part covers the entire keyboard range. The individual sounds of each part can be easily selected and changed in color by dialing into distinct sample sets. So the Preset part features the original Ensemble and Full Rotor effects while the Synth part sounds are sampled to 10 layers with different combinations of the original Filter Cutoff and Resonance.
The Live Pack includes the fully loaded Magmavox 3000 synthesizer plus additional modules of each Bass, Preset and Synth sound.

Composite Keys features sounds from the WSA1, the one and only synthesizer ever made by a world-famous turntable manufacturer. With its coolish and digital acoustic modeling sound the WSA1 didn´t make it to everyone´s heart so today it definately has found its place in the Top 10 of the most underrated synthesizers ever.
Composite Keys includes 20 full-blown presets with velocity-layered stereo samples. The samples also contain a proper portion of the WSA1´s internal effect engine and thus give you a realistic feel and sound of this lovely piece of vintage gear.

Buses, Cars, Trains and more
City Traffic brings the daily noise of Berlin to your library.
The Pack contains recordings of main roads during the morning rush hour, when the trolley car rumbles over the rails and the trucks are roaring through the kettles. In between a bunch of honking mopeds and cars with broken exhaust pipes are fighting for their space. Commuter trains are crossing every minute, the omnibus arrives just in time and the long-distance trains pass the station with squeaking brakes. In the evening it is rainy and at least the suburb calms down a little bit.
City Traffic consists of 10 different sceneries that are split into 55 single takes, with a length from 30 to 150 seconds.
The material offers exciting possibilities for scoring, radio play and composition.

fTable includes a huge collection of synthesized waveforms created on a Hohner HS1E sampler. All sets of waveforms use the additive and hand drawing capabilities of this unit. The samples are recorded through the samplers proprietary 16 Bit DAC that is a little harsh but also gives unique colorization to the sounds.

An upright piano at open windows
Day Time Traffic Piano is an unusual interpretation of a virtual piano library. A well preserved Hoffmann & Kühne upright piano in a Berlin city apartment delivered the material for this Live Pack. The recording session took place on an ordinary Wednesday during the afternoon. The windows above the heavily travelled main road were kept open intentionally so that the noise of passing cars, trucks, mopeds and trams could be captured on the recordings.
The results are 6 outstanding Ableton instruments. Imagine to play your piano either at a city crossroad, as a prepared piano on a freejazz session or to use it as a synth-like texture generator. Be invited to explore new interpretations of the well-known piano sound.

East German Strings and Pianos
La Ramona Piano Strings reassembles the Vermona String Piano. The original from 1978 features two main sounds named Piano and Strings. Each of them consists of three adjustable registers. So the piano sound is composed of a piano, a clavichord and a spinet layer while the string sound is composed of a cello, a viola and a violine layer.
Like all stringers of this time the instrument is built around a main oscillator that gets divided into 12 frequencies of the according octave.
What makes this vintage instrument special is the multiple analog chorus unit that colors the sound in its unique way.

The Vocalist Toolbox
Vocalist Kathie Monroe came in for several recording sessions and performed whatever came to her mind. The results are 5 perfect vowel instruments, the Konsolese device, 52 categorized vocal clips spiced up with 10 sophisticated effect racks.
The vowel instruments span across 3 octaves each. Their included samples were fine tuned only, no further transpositions took place.
Konsolese contains a lot of short vocal attacks and all kinds of side noises that Kathie did during recording. With implemented random and arpeggiator features Konsolese is a versatile tool for cadenced staccato phrases.
Also included in this Live Pack are 52 clips that introduce a great variety of dadaistic phrases and other weird frames of mind.

The Roland SH-2000 was introduced in 1973. It´s an analog single-oscillator synthesizer with adjustable cutoff, resonance and LFO modulation on filter and pitch. Below its 37-note keyboard are 30 colorful tab switches for the selection of such funny presets like Frog Man, Singing Voice or Hawaiian Guitar. Although the sound of these presets are far away from what their names imply they are fun to play with.
The Live Pack includes 22 heavy processed instruments where most of them include a kill switch. This allows to return to the unaltered and original preset sound.

A fresh library based on the Interactive Phase Distortion principle. The Casio VZ10m and the German Hohner HS2/E are the last hardware synths featuring iPD. The iPD synthesis was meant as an effort to simplify sound programming because its results are easier to predict when comparing to FM synthesis. IPD is capable of producing bright and lively tunes with sharp attacks and digital precision.
The Live Pack contains 30 instruments featuring "filter-less" and "non-substractive" sounds that stand out thru their rich harmonic content and agile brightness. Each instrument is based on its unique set of velocity-layered multisamples.

The Harmona Forte is a keyboard instrument similar to a reed organ. The sound of the instrument is produced by air beeing blown thru reeds of different length. The air is provided by an electrical driven blower that produces a permanent wind noise. With this functional principle the Harmona Forte belongs to the Aerophones.
The Live Pack instruments recreate the sounds of the Harmona with detailed stereosamples, adjustable in its width, and separate levels for Reeds, Key-on, Key-off and Blower noise.
Harmona Forte contains additional 14 instruments that take the sound of the original far beyond primary imaginations. Audio demos No. 2 and 3 give demonstrative examples.

DTS019 - Gra.FX
Header artworks transformed into sound
Gra.FX, a sound pack containing a collection of Ableton Instruments for the creation of constantly evolving rhythms, textures, pads and drones. The sample pool of these instruments consists of fifteen transformed header artworks that had appeared on the Detunized.com website during the past year and a half.
Before being transformed by an additive synthesis algorithm, all selected artworks were separated into their respective color space and brightness range with the aid of high-resolution spectral analysis software.
The revealing sets of rich and complex samples then formed the basis of the Ableton Instruments. Each of the fifteen instruments has eight remote controllable sound shape devices with carefully adjusted multi-parameter mappings that grant for creative enhancements of the “graphic-sounds”.

This month´s Live Pack features a Hammond B2 organ with built in TREK II TP-2B Percussion module.
All organ´s registers plus the percussion module were recorded separately - thru line out and a mic´ed LESLIE Type 251 speaker. All sources are integrated in two different Live Racks. Type A focuses on more common parameters while Type B has mapped the organ´s registers to the rack macro controls.
Furthermore 4 dinky eggs made their way into the pack. They came up as a result of several audio processing steps and feature organ type sounds as well.

Eastern sunset
A comprehensive collection of sounds created with the Yamaha Control Synthesizer Type 15.
Each preset of the Live Pack consists of its unique set of samples and velocity layers. Eight macro controls allow instant tweaking of combined parameters. Due to the modular structure of Live Racks access to the more detailed settings of each patch is also guaranteed.
The original CS-15 is an often underrated monophonic synth from the late 70's. It is equipped with a dual signal path including 2 Oscillators, 2 Multimode Filters, a dual VCA system and 2 assignable Envelope Generators. With these switch-assignable modules the CS-15 turns out to be more than a simple monophonic analog synth of its time.

Found sounds from the attic
An old house somewhere in the German countryside with an attic full of sound objects like pots, pans, lids, chairs, wardrobes, bicycle frames, basins, bathtubs and shaky windows.
The recordings made there served as the foundation for the creation of a nice selection of long and evolving textures and drones that cover the borderline between tonal and atonal soundscapes.
Every sample was carefully handcrafted by passing several processing stages. The release includes them as chromatically mapped instrument rack and as live clips.

Featuring the sounds of the one and only Vermona Synthesizer, made in GDR, this Live Pack transforms the symbols of the east german workingclass into 3 exciting synthesizers.
"Hammer" is good for strange textures.
"Zirkel" is a kind of 303 bass synth. The original Vermona filter is featured here.
"Aehrenkranz" can be fitted with 133 different oscillators carrying a great variety of Vermona sounds. It is also excellent for messing around with phase shiftings. A manual can be found here. (o)

DTS009 - Rolfing Laid Back Vol. 1
Rescued from the timber worm
A really rotten upright piano, totally out of tune, with all the keys disappeared.
But the chassis was still complete and made such a fantastic reverb, it seemed to be everlasting. Slapping the lowest string it took almost three minutes until the sound had gone.
With Volume 1 you get the original piano sound picked up at two distances plus five other sound sets using different prepared piano techniques.
The audio demos you can listen to on the left were made completely without additional reverb.

Not only a Danisch theme...
This time we picked up a dusty Rhodes Mark 1 we found in a desolated rear building near my hometown. We tried to get the best out of it and were amazed about the stable sounds this piece gave us!
The thing I personaly like most is the key-off sound when releasing the lower keys.
In our Rodox 73 extension you can steplessly mix the level of these release sounds ad libitum. Furthermore we processed the recordings through different outboard gear such as tubes and reverbs.
So you will have the original Mark 1 sound plus some nice modifications of it, each one basing on its own set of samples.

DTS005 - Tron 5
Variations on a tank
Another analog treasure from the eastern hemisphere.
The russian Elektronika EM-5 comes green and heavy like a battle tank but when taking a look closer it is more like a cancer. Protected by a 25 KG steel body it soon reveals its vulnerability. But once the cheap plastic keys, some transistors and other bowels had been fixed the Elektronika rewarded us with some lovely keyboard sounds not far from the Clavinet and a string section.
With the Tron-5 extension we have preserved these nice original sounds but also demonstrate that the original CAN sound like a tank. Among other things we added an adjustable suboctave and the distinctive key-off noise that is inherent to this keyboard.

As a very special feature the Tron-5 extension includes some lightweight versions of the original sounds. So this extension can also be played on netbooks and older computers with nearly the same comfort.

Due to the semi-modular principle of Live the Vox Populi Synthesizer could be extended far beyond the original Polivoks layout. It includes 4 different types of Multiwaveform Oscillators capable of Waveform Shaping, Frequency Modulation, Amplitude Modulation and Pitch Modulation. Additional 24 oscillators contain further sets of multisampled Polivoks timbres.
